It might not be apocalypse as the movies envision it..
But to you, it is close enough..

All around, People walk with invisible blinds on their eyes..
Drawn by the cheap scents of capitalism into the whirlwind of consumption without end..

Not everyone gets their fix with needles or joints..
Some absorb endless amounts of garbage, hiked up in price because of less than a couple of cm² of an identifier that only the blind can see..
Can’t we see the trail of damage this junk of ours is making?
Myriads of families in slavery, earning slim pikins for that 1,000$+ designer bag?
All the pollutants that were whisked into our environment because of our habit?

Yet for some of us, maybe that’s not our thing..
For among us lie minimalists, decrying this race to the checkout lane..
Those too might still be joining the race to the bottom..
Pushing content here and there with the intention of collecting virtual thumbs up and hearts and admiration..
Filling an endless pit of wanting to be acknowledged and recognised..
Always wondering whether there’s a meaning to life while pretending to know it all along on treated pics that exude false bravery and wisdom..

When will this come to an end?
Is there a new Rosa Parks or Mandela hiding among us?
One that would have influence on the masses more than our economists and businesses..
One that would bring kindness and mercy into fashion once more..
Declaring a new race to the top..
A race of true awareness of our somber reality, yet filled with hope that we can do much better than this..
That we can shouldn’t aim less than true equity and equality for all..

Would the aware among us please stand up?
